WELCOME
My pictures are copyrighted. Please do not use any of my pictures without my permission. I'm excited to have this blog as a reference to those who need it, but I don't want my little girl's face all over the internet! Instead of stealing my pictures, refer to this site. THANKS!
Although our little girl had brown hair when she was born, she was SO bald up until close to her first birthday. Such a bald baby really needed bows; however, I was quickly discouraged. I had a difficult time finding bows other than the "Frakenstien" headbands---as I call them---and those that I could find were outrageously priced. Being the stubborn & determined woman I am, I set out to learn how to make them myself. I quickly discovered that it's very difficult to find free instructions. I stuck with it and began learning a few tricks summer 2008. At the time, I was pregnant with our second (a little boy who couldn't enjoy my new found abilities:)). Bedrest bows was born when I ended up on bedrest with light activity for the remaining 12 weeks of the pregnancy. After experience real frustration, I want to be able to empower others who desire to learn how to make cute bows and tutus. Leave me a comment or drop me and e-mail if you have questions...otherwise, good luck & enjoy the links and ideas. Don't be intimidated! If I can make bows anybody can! I think you will be shocked with how simple it really is!

Flower barret tutorial...
I have had great intentions of taking pictures of all the flower clips I made this summer and making a tutorial for it, but the work has already been done...by one of favorite free instruction sites. Click here for instructions. Someday...maybe someday I'll catch up on this blog...but then again, maybe not. :)

Bows for boys...

I've been converted once again...
I've been "bitten" by the "bow bug" again and have been mass producing bows again. I really needed a break after 12 weeks of bows all day...every day while on bedrest! :) I need to take pictures of the latest and greatest...someday in my spare time (whatever that used to be)...for now, I've changed my mind about korkers. I used to HATE them, but I figured out that I was making them too big and just a jumbled up massive mess. For this set I only used seven (the instructions say 30) 3-inch long strips of 3/8" width grosgrain ribbon. For instructions on korkers, clickHERE
Also, a long awaited project...with all the bows little lady has, I have needed to make her a bigger bow holder instead of two tiny ones. I LOVE this one! Instructions HERE I bought a 16x20 frame at a local second-hand store and matched the colors custom to go with her bedroom decor.
Hope you've been inspired and you can be bitten by the bow bug too! :)

To those who have been waiting...
Here's how my set turned out. Not perfect, but cute enough! :)
Thanks to those who came to the bow party! I had a blast and hope you did too! A quick refresher crash course:For the red bows (or twisted boutique bows) I used 24 inches of 7/8" width grosgrain. Instructions for this bow here.
For the surrounding loops (blue and white) I used 20 inches per loop of 3/8"width grosgrain. Instructions for loops here or here.
For the other layer, I used 5 inches of 5/8" width grosgrain, and a set of 5 inch length 3/8" width grosgrain. Instructions for that layer, plus assembling here.
Other helpful hints:
covering an aligator clip here
finishing your bow with a knot center here.
Good luck and let me know if you have any questions or run into any problems!

Kufi hats...I've been converted!

I found this little green kufi hat at the ribbon retreat for $2.95. There is a huge selection of colors and one size fits all. I attached 1 1/2 in. of 3/8" grosgrain ribbon to the hat to make bows interchangeable. She has an over the top stacked boutique bow attached in these pictures. I'm so in love! I just threw it on when I was in a rush and didn't have the 10 min + to fix her hair and she still looked like she has a Mommy who takes care of her. ;)

headbands

The headband behind this bow is a crochet bow. Places to get them: check the little girls' section (NOT THE BABY SECTION) at Wal-mart. I have found them in both Rexburg & Idaho Falls. I'm curious if they are elsewhere too. Also, The Ribbon Retreat (see link for how to make korkers, loopy bows, & bug bows) has a wide selection of colors & widths. I add a 1 1/2" length 3/8" ribbon to the headband to clip the bow to. I'll try to add a tutuorial sometime soon.

This bow has a nylon headband. This is so simple, it's almost funny! Get a women's knee-high stocking. Cut off the elastic end that hold it up. Slip the toe into the open hole & sew it closed. you can hot glue the bow directly to the headband. If you want the bows & bands to be interchangable, then add a 1 1/2" length, 3/8" width peice of ribbon to the band. Make sure to leave the front of the headband free so you can slip a clip through the small loop you created. Make sure to secrure the back of the ribbon to the headband, otherwise, the ribbon loop will slide up and down the headband. I hope to post a tutuorial sometime soon.
The ribbon retreat also has a selction of cloth headbands availalbe.
